Nanobiotechnology is the study of biological molecules and the development of new technologies based on these materials. It is the interface between biology and nanotechnology, the manipulation of matter on an atomic and molecular scale.  For example, protein molecules have wide ranges of properties, depending upon their structure, they can range from mechanical strength (collagen), to molecular recognition (antibodies), to motors (bacterial flagellae).

Nanobiotechnology takes these attributes and tries to create new materials, sensors for medical applications, and devices to be used in the real world. In many ways, nanobiotechnology is the future of medical science.
